Nicolas Cage Sequel to Fan-Favorite 2005 Movie Gets Exciting Update

A 2005 fan-favorite Nicolas Cage movie has gotten a major update, with the news sure to excite fans of one of Cage’s most well-known roles.

What Nicolas Cage sequel has gotten an exciting update?

Vertical announced that it has acquired the U.S. rights to Andrew Niccol’s sequel Lords of War, the next chapter in the crime drama franchise that originated back in 2005. Vertical also announced that they will be showing off footage of the movie at CinemaCon 2026, and have a plan to release the movie in theaters in 2027.

As previously reported, Lords of War will see Bill Skarsgård, Laura Harrier, Sylvia Hoeks, and Greg Tarzan Davis join Cage in the upcoming movie. Niccol will once again write and direct the project, with Cage, Philippe Rousselet, and Fabrice Gianfermi all attached to the project as producers.

According to Vertical, Lords of War will follow Cage’s Yuri Orlov, a notorious arms deal, who “discovers that he has a son, Anton (Skarsgård), a ruthless mercenary mastermind bent on surpassing his father by building a private army and exploiting America’s wars in the Middle East, he is thrust into a deadly battle for legacy. What begins as a shocking revelation ignites a fierce father-son rivalry fueled by power, ambition, and betrayal – with the global arms trade hanging in the balance,” reads the film’s official synopsis.

The original film was inspired by the real-life stories of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout. It also starred Ethan Hawke, Jared Leto, and Bridget Moynahan, and received mixed reviews, although later becoming a fan-favorite of Cage’s career.
