Canceled Star Wars Movie With Sequel Trilogy Lead Gets Worst News Possible

A canceled Star Wars movie centered on Ben Solo has now been firmly ruled out, with no plans for it to move forward. The film, titled The Hunt for Ben Solo and developed in connection with Adam Driver, will not be revived, bringing an end to speculation around its future.

Adam Driver’s Ben Solo Star Wars movie won’t be revived

A planned Star Wars film centered on Ben Solo is no longer moving forward, with Steven Soderbergh confirming that the project will not be revived. Addressing speculation about a possible return, he stated plainly, “Nope.” In an interview with The Playlist, he added, “Look, if it was gonna happen, it would have happened. It’s that simple.”

The project, titled The Hunt for Ben Solo, was developed in collaboration with Adam Driver, who had been working on the idea for two years. Soderbergh explained how the concept originated, noting, “It was strictly Adam saying, ‘I think there’s still somewhere to go with this character.’ That’s how it started,” adding that he otherwise would not have revisited the Star Wars universe.

Driver had previously spoken about the project in an interview with Associated Press. It was presented to Lucasfilm, where it received support from executives including Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Cary Beck.

Despite that backing, the film did not proceed after being taken to leadership at The Walt Disney Company. Recalling the decision, Driver said, “We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea… We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, and they said no.”

Following the project’s cancellation, Soderbergh said he moved on quickly. He said, “As soon as it became apparent, ‘OK, not gonna happen,’ I sat down and started writing [something else].” The filmmaker added, “It’s like, ‘OK, new scenario, let’s get cracking.’ At a certain point, it’s like complaining about the weather. You just gotta keep moving.”
