Marvel’s Captain America & X-23 Actors Are Teaming up for New Action Thriller

A new action thriller movie headlined by the actors behind Captain America and X-23 is set to begin production soon. Marking the pair’s first collaboration, it promises an intense narrative fueled by high-octane non-stop action sequences. The feature currently does not have an official release date.

Barracuda action movie to star Anthony Mackie and Dafne Keen

Anthony Mackie and Dafne Keen are set to star in Barracuda. The action-thriller will be helmed by Neil Burger, whose previous credits include Limitless, Divergent, and The Illusionist. Meanwhile, Adam Mason and Simon Boyes co-wrote the screenplay. Mackie is most famous for playing Sam Wilson, aka Captain America/Falcon, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His other film and TV appearances include 8 Mile, The Hurt Locker, Altered Carbon, and Twisted Metal.

Meanwhile, Keen had her breakthrough as Laura/X-23 in Logan, a role she reprised in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine. She also featured in His Dark Materials, The Acolyte, and Whistle. Co-starring are Steven Bauer, known for Breaking Bad, Scarface, and Ray Donovan, and Anthony Del Negro, who appeared in shows like Welcome to Chippendales and Kate Hudson’s Running Point.

“When Karl (Anthony Mackie), a former smuggler with a haunted past, storms a nightclub in Mexico to rescue Jodie (Dafne Keen), a kidnapped teenage girl, he ignites a chain reaction of blood and bullets that burns across 100 miles of deadly roads toward the U.S. border,” the official synopsis reads.

It continues, “The breakout turns into a high-speed race when Karl kills the brother of the ruthless club owner and steals his prized 1973 Plymouth Barracuda. Now hunted by relentless criminals, Karl and Jodie tear across the desert with no way to slow down.”

The film’s production is scheduled to begin this week in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Highland Film Group is handling the film’s international and domestic rights, with UTA Independent Film Group also co-repping the latter.

Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier, and Henry Winterstern of Highland are producing the film. Joining them are Jack and Aaron Rapke (Image Movers), Kia Jam (K. Jam Media), Todd Lundbohm (828 Productions), Peter Jákl (R.U. Robot Studios), and Joe Di Maio. The executive-producing team includes Oscar-winning Robert Zemeckis, Image Movers’ Isaac Lilly, Mark and Christine Holder, Bryan Coyne, Kyle Fox, and Walter Josen.
