Chris Pratt, now a star of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), was once a side character that fans did not want the girl to end up with. In a new interview with EW, the actor discussed how he started as the “douche” in the industry. He slowly made his way to better roles.
“This is the role that I often was offered from early in my career up until this point, which is the guy you don’t want to end up with the girl, and kind of the douche character,” Pratt explained while recalling his role in 2009’s Bride Wars, which also starred Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson.
He continued, “I’ve been offered that a lot. I dined out on ‘dickhead boyfriend’ for a long time.”
Pratt went on to portray several such characters in films like Wanted, Jennifer’s Body, Take Me Home Tonight, and What’s Your Number, among others.
Soon after, he had more serious roles, like in Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty. This eventually led to his transition as a leading actor.
Pratt also spoke about his time on Parks and Recreation in the same interview. “Can I tell you what I loved so much about Parks and Rec? I worked seven minutes from my house,” the actor said, “I would roll into work, and within 20 of parking I would be on camera. I would just throw my fingers through my hair, get up there, and just improv some comedy. It was the best. I loved it.”
Patt recently appeared in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and will appear soon in Way of the Warrior Kid.
