DCU’s Maxima Casting Gets 3 New Candidates After James Gunn’s Dismissal – Report

James Gunn may have dismissed one casting report for his upcoming movie, but another batch of names has surfaced. A new DCU shortlist of actors has emerged for Man of Tomorrow‘s Maxima role, with three different names.

New report says four stars are being considered for Maxima in Man of Tomorrow

A new report has identified four actresses currently screen testing for Maxima in James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow. Writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez introduced Maxima in Action Comics No. 645 in 1989. She is an alien queen who has functioned as both an antagonist and a potential love interest for Superman.

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively revealed that Adria Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten are the final candidates. This week, the four actors tested in Atlanta, where Gunn is actively preparing for his Superman sequel.

Arjona previously collaborated with Gunn on The Belko Experiment and also featured in the acclaimed Star Wars series Andor. De Dominici appeared in The Cleaning Lady and features in the upcoming comedy Balls Up. Meanwhile, Chandler led FX’s Alien: Earth, and Van Patten led The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.

However, Arjona’s involvement has already been denied as this development follows an earlier Deadline report, which named Marisa Abela, Adria Arjona, and Ella Purnell as those being considered.

Gunn swiftly disputed that report on Threads soon after publication. He wrote, “Deadline’s reporting is shoddy and incorrect… If someone would have run these names by us we would have said it’s bullshit. I’ve been friends with Adria a long time since I cast her in the Belko Experiment. I’m a fan of both Marisa and Ella but I’ve never met either of them.”

DC Studios declined to comment on The Hollywood Reporter’s updated findings. It’ll be interesting to see whether these four names in the new report get a reply from Gunn, who also cast doubts on Maxima’s appearance altogether.

Man of Tomorrow will see David Corenswet return as Superman alongside Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The film releases on July 9, 2027.
