Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction 3 Gets Exciting Update, Returning Stars Revealed

A new update for Extraction 3 has been revealed, confirming that the highly anticipated next installment in Netflix‘s hit action-thriller franchise is finally moving forward with production. This comes more than two years after the sequel debuted, which currently holds a Certified Fresh score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Who is returning in Extraction 3?

According to Deadline, Avengers: Doomsday star Chris Hemsworth has signed on to reprise his role as Tyler Rake in Extraction 3. Body of Lies star Golshifteh Farahani is also expected to return as Nik Khan, who has been in the cast since the first installment. They will be joined by Golden Globe winner Idris Elba, who previously had a brief appearance in 2023’s Extraction 2. Further details about its plot and setting are still under wraps. The streamer is currently planning to start filming sometime this summer.

The third installment will once again be directed by Sam Hargrave, with David Weil attached to pen the screenplay. Producers are Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa for AGBO and Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson for Wild State, along with Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin. The project is executive-produced by Steven V. Scavelli. The franchise is based on Andre Parks and the Russo Brothers’ graphic novel, Ciudad.

Apart from Extraction 3, Netflix is also producing an Extraction TV spin-off starring Omar Sy, titled Mercenary: An Extraction Series. It will center around a mercenary on a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. The franchise is also getting a South Korean spin-off movie, TYGO, with Eternals star Don Lee and Lisa of Blackpink set to lead the cast. This marks the global popstar’s feature acting debut after previously starring in The White Lotus Season 3.
