X-Men: Beef and The Bear Talents Join MCU Movie

After a prolonged period of complete radio silence on updates regarding the X-Men reboot, the highly anticipated Marvel project has finally received its slate of writers. In a recent interview, Jake Schreier, who will be assuming directorial responsibilities of the film, revealed that The Bear showrunner Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin, creator of Netflix’s hit series Beef, are currently penning a script for the X-Men revival feature.

Jake Schreier confirms writers for Marvel’s X-Men reboot script

While talking about Beef Season 2, the Thunderbolts* director, who has worked as an executive producer and in-house director for the Netflix series, provided a much-awaited update on the MCU X-Men film.

When asked by Collider’s Steve Weintraub about the progress made on the movie, Jake Schreier replied, “We’re still developing.”

Schreier then confirmed Lee Sun Jin and Joanna Calo’s involvement in the X-Men reboot, stating, “One of the exciting things that’s tying into Beef is that Sonny [Lee Sung Jin] and Joanna [Calo] both worked on this season. Obviously, I mean, Beef is Sonny’s show, and Joanna worked on the season as well, and we worked together on Season 1 of Beef and on Thunderbolts*. They have come in and are working on a draft right now, which is really exciting to be able to put that group of people together again.”

Additionally, Jake Schreier commended the newly recruited X-Men writers by describing their respective shows as “two of the most interesting shows on television right now.” He further explained why Lee and Calo are the right fit for the project.

Schreier noted, “When you go back and read X-Men [comics], there’s ideology but also interpersonal drama, almost of a soap opera quality. Having writers who understand both how to drive ideology from personal stakes, if we get that right, that’s what will feel most honest to what X-Men can be.”

Meanwhile, Marvel Studios has yet to announce the cast of the X-Men reboot. Moreover, the official release date window of the project remains under wraps for the time being.
