Critically Panned Horror Video Game Movie Arriving on Peacock Soon After Sequel
Peacock is adding a 2023 horror movie, based on an iconic video game franchise, to its streaming catalog later this month. While the movie didn’t receive much critical acclaim, it became a massive commercial success. Its sequel premiered on the platform earlier this month.
Five Nights at Freddy’s set to stream on Peacock in April
Five Nights at Freddy’s will begin streaming on Peacock from Sunday, April 26, 2026. This comes just weeks after its sequel, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, arrived on the platform.
Emma Tammi co-wrote the screenplay and directed the movie. Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback also worked on the script. The movie is based on Cawthon’s video game franchise of the same name.
The story centers on Mike, who takes on the job of a night security guard at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza restaurant. As he begins working, he discovers that the animatronic mascots are haunted and come to life at night. Mike soon learns the dark truth behind the animatronics and that they want his sister to be one of them. With the help of police officer Vanessa Shelly, he must protect his sister and himself.
Five Nights at Freddy’s cast includes Josh Hutcherson as Mike, Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa, Piper Rubio as Abby, Matthew Lillard as William, and Mary Stuart Masterson as Aunt Jane, among others.
Warner Bros. reportedly began developing a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie in 2015 (via The Hollywood Reporter). However, after multiple delays, Blumhouse Productions acquired the rights in 2017. Following several director changes, the studio hired Tammi to helm the adaptation, who also returned to direct the sequel.
Five Nights at Freddy’s opened in theaters in October 2025 and came simultaneously on Peacock. Despite this, the movie went on to earn over $290 million globally, as per Box Office Mojo. Critically, it didn’t earn much praise. Based on more than 200 critics’ average scores, the movie has a 33% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience, on the other hand, has rated it 86%, showcasing a stark contrast in the reception.
