Margot Robbie’s R-Rated Crime Thriller Is Leaving Netflix
A 2015 romantic-comedy starring Margot Robbie will be removed from Netflix’s library very soon. The R-rated film follows a veteran con man who takes an amateur under his wing, but their growing relationship complicates his schemes as he unexpectedly falls in love with her.
Margot Robbie-led Focus leaves Netflix in May
Netflix will be delisting the Margot Robbie-starrer Focus on Friday, May 1, 2026.
The story centers on Nicky, an experienced con artist, who exposes Jess, an aspiring swindler, when she tries to scam him. Eventually, Nicky takes Jess as his protégé. As they grow closer, Nicky breaks the one rule his father had taught: never get emotionally involved with your partner. After scamming a wealthy gambler out of millions, Nicky gives Jess her share and leaves. Years later, he runs into her again while working for a motorsport company that is trying to sabotage rival teams.
Glenn Ficarra and John Requa wrote and helmed Focus, marking the third time they collaborated. They previously worked on I Love You Phillip Morris (2009) and Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011). The film stars Robbie as Jess, Will Smith as Nicky, Rodrigo Santoro as Rafael, Gerald McRaney as Bucky, Adrian Martinez as Farhad, and B. D. Wong as Liyuan Tse, among others.
Reportedly, the studio considered Ben Affleck and Brad Pitt for the role of Nicky. Meanwhile, Kristen Stewart was brought in to portray Jess. However, when the Men in Black star joined the project, the Twilight actress walked away from the role because of the age gap between them, per Variety.
Warner Bros. Pictures distributed Focus worldwide, releasing it on February 27, 2015. The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. It is currently holding a 55% Tomatometer score and a 53% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, it ended its theatrical run with a worldwide collection of $159 million, per Box Office Mojo. Since it was made on a reported budget of $50 million, the film is generally considered a box office hit.
