Steven Spielberg Ranks Zendaya Epic in His All-Time Sci-Fi Movies List 

Steven Spielberg has named a Zendaya film among his all-time favorite science fiction movies. In a recent interview, he praised the Denis Villeneuve creation and described the film as a standout within the genre.

Steven Spielberg has placed Dune: Part Two among his all-time favorite science fiction films, highlighting the sequel as a major achievement within the genre. In a recent interview with Empire, the director spoke at length about his admiration for Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the Dune universe.

Discussing the films, Spielberg noted that both parts have left a lasting impression, highlighting the second part as a major achievement. He said, “Recently, I’ve loved the Dune movies. They are among my favorite science-fiction movies, not just recently, but of all time. Especially the second film.”

Spielberg also addressed Villeneuve’s approach to adapting Dune. He noted, “I think [Part Two] is the best movie Denis has ever made.” He compared Villeneuve’s work to Guillermo del Toro’s interpretation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. In addition to his praise, Spielberg expressed anticipation for Dune: Part Three, indicating interest in where the story goes next. The filmmaker added, “I cannot wait to see the third one. I’m sure he’ll show it to me early. I’m such a fan of his.”

In an earlier 2024 discussion with Villeneuve on The Director’s Cut podcast, Spielberg described Dune: Part Two as truly a visual epic filled with “deeply, deeply drawn characters.” He added, “You have made one of the most brilliant science fiction films I have ever seen.”

The filmmaker is currently preparing for the release of Disclosure Day, which will mark his return to directing following The Fabelmans. Meanwhile, Dune: Part Three is scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026.
