“Of Course I’m Scared” Supergirl’s Milly Alcock on Potential Fan Reaction

Milly Alcock addressed one of the most inevitable conversations surrounding her upcoming DC debut ahead of Supergirl’s June release. The actress opened up about navigating intense fandomsfemale representation in genre spaces, and what her time in Westeros taught her about stepping into a beloved superhero role.

Milly Alcock on if House of the Dragon has prepared her for Supergirl

Milly Alcock confirmed that her time on House of the Dragon has directly prepared her for Supergirl. The 25-year-old Australian actress told Vanity Fair: “It definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on.” She added, “We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies.”

Alcock played young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel before landing the role of Kara Zor-El in Warner Bros.’ Supergirl, releasing June 26, 2026. Both franchises carry devoted, and sometimes critical, fandoms that closely scrutinize their casts. Her House of the Dragon experience taught her the limits of controlling public perception as a woman in genre entertainment.

Despite her fears, Alcock maintains a grounded attitude toward anticipated criticism. “Of course I’m scared,” she told Vanity Fair. “Of course I want people to like me and the movie. But ultimately, it’s out of my control.” She stated plainly: “I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”

Alcock did not seek advice from previous Supergirl actresses Melissa Benoist or Sasha Calle. “They’re just people living their lives,” she said. “It’s not like we have this blood bond.” She similarly avoided seeking guidance from Julianne Moore during their work together on Netflix’s Sirens.

Alcock initially swore off franchise projects after completing House of the Dragon. A year without work after Sirens changed her perspective considerably. She described the decision to take the Supergirl role by saying, “I kind of bullied myself into it.” Directors Craig Gillespie helms the film, which also stars Jason Momoa and Matthias Schoenaerts.
