Fans Erupt Over Avengers 6, Sydney Sweeney & Gollum’s Theatrical Event
Lionsgate recently announced that The Housemaid 2, starring Sydney Sweeney, is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 17, 2027, the same day Avengers 6 and The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum are also scheduled to hit the big screen. This development has drawn the attention of fans, many of whom shared their reactions online, as there is considerable anticipation surrounding each film.
Fans react to Secret Wars, LOTR sequel, and The Housemaid 2 release date
Fans shared a variety of responses to Avengers: Secret Wars, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, and The Housemaid 2 being scheduled to be released on the same day. Several fans coined different terms for the cinematic event. Meanwhile, others shared their preference for what they will be watching. However, some expressed shock or surprise and thought dropping The Housemaid and Avengers sequels on the same day was a bad idea.
Avengers: Secret Wars will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. They are also co-producing the film with Marvel Studios via their production banner, AGBO. The film is expected to continue the storyline established in Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
Meanwhile, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will be helmed by Andy Serkis, who played the titular character in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens are writing the script, producing the movie with Peter Jackson, and overseeing the entire creative process. Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou join Walsh and Boyens in scripting duties. In addition to directing, Serkis will also serve as executive producer alongside Ken Kamins and Jonathan Cavendish of The Imaginarium.
The Housemaid 2 will see Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone reprise their roles from the first film. They will be joined by Kirsten Dunst, with Paul Feig also returning as director. The sequel will adapt the story of The Housemaid’s Secret, the second novel in Freida McFadden’s series. In it, Millie takes care of a mysterious woman’s house, but isn’t allowed to see her. While performing her duties, she comes across a locked door beyond which lie incredibly dark secrets.
