Josh Brolin’s 2025 Flop Sci-Fi Movie Is Heading To Prime Video

A 2025 dystopian sci-fi starring Josh Brolin will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video very soon. The movie is the second adaptation of Stephen King’s popular novel, and despite the fairly positive reception, it failed to be a commercial hit.

The Running Man begins streaming on Prime Video in April

The Running Man will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, April 17, 2026 (via Amazon News). It is based on Stephen King’s 1982 novel of the same name, which he published under the pen name Richard Bachman. Furthermore, the movie is the second adaptation of the novel, following the 1987 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The story takes place in a distant future in which the United States is run by an authoritarian TV network called the Network. The film follows Ben Richards, a working-class man who needs money for his sick daughter.

Out of desperation, he participates in a deadly show called The Running Man, where he must survive for 30 days while dangerous assassins and citizens hunt him down. At the end of the contest, the lone survivor will win the ultimate cash prize of $1 billion.

Edgar Wright helmed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Michael Bacall. Reportedly, Wright had expressed his desire to adapt King’s novel a long time ago, per IndieWire. However, it took a while for his dream project to materialize. And unlike the 1987 adaptation, the 2025 film is reportedly more faithful to the source material. Additionally, Wright reunited with Steven Price for the movie’s score.

The cast features Josh Brolin as Dan, Glen Powell as Ben, Colman Domingo as Bobby, Lee Pace as Evan, Michael Cera as Elton, Emilia Jones as Amelia, and William H. Macy as Molie, among others.

Released on November 14, 2025, the movie fairly mixed-to-positive reviews from critics. On review-aggregator sites like Rotten Tomatoes, it currently holds a 61% Tomatometer score and a 77% Popcornmeter score. Despite the favorable reception, the film ended its theatrical run with global earnings of roughly $69 million against a reported budget of $110 million.
