Sydney Sweeney’s NSFW Sequel Gets First Poster

Sydney Sweeney is not done playing house, and Lionsgate dropped the poster to prove it. The studio unveiled the first poster for The Housemaid’s sequel, and whatever is behind that door, it now has an opening date.

The Housemaid’s Secret reveals first poster

Lionsgate has released the first teaser poster for The Housemaid’s Secret, the sequel to Paul Feig’s psychological thriller The Housemaid.

The poster features a darkened room with a door slightly ajar, casting a sliver of red-tinted light across the floor, with the release date “12·17·27” displayed in red text. The official The Housemaid X account confirmed the date with the caption, “When one door closes… The Housemaid’s Secret: coming to theaters December 17, 2027.”

The sequel arrives exactly two years after the original, which grossed nearly $400 million worldwide on an R-rated release through Lionsgate. The Housemaid opened domestically to $19 million before legging out to $126.5 million stateside, a 6.6x multiple, competing against Avatar: Fire & Ash’s $89.1 million opening weekend.

Sydney Sweeney returns as Millie, with Michele Morrone reprising his role as Enzo. Kirsten Dunst joins the cast as a new addition. The film adapts Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel The Housemaid’s Secret, following Millie as she takes a housekeeping job for a woman she never gets to meet, uncovering secrets behind a locked door. Rebecca Sonnenshine, who wrote the screenplay for the first film, returns to adapt the sequel.

The Housemaid’s Secret will face significant competition on December 17, 2027, going up against Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars and Warner Bros.’ The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, mirroring how the first film competed against Avatar: Fire & Ash. Production on the sequel kicks off later in 2026.

Lionsgate optioned McFadden’s literary trilogy early, before the books became bestsellers, and has plans for additional Housemaid films beyond the sequel.
