New Wedding Crashers 2 Update From Vince Vaughn Is Both Good & Bad News

Wedding Crashers 2‘s development has received yet another update, this time from Vince Vaughn. It comes several months after co-lead Owen Wilson revealed that the original film’s director, David Dobkin, was writing a script. The first one premiered in theaters roughly 21 years ago, becoming both a critical and commercial success. Following its release, it was widely recognized for renewing the popularity of R-rated adult-oriented comedies.

Vince Vaughn talks about Wedding Crashers 2

Vaughn revealed in a recent interview that discussions about Wedding Crashers 2 were taking place. He expressed interest in doing a sequel, but stressed the necessity of a good narrative.

Speaking to E! News at the premiere of his new film, Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, the Bad Monkey star stated, “Well, there’s always been discussions about it. I would, you know, if there’s a good story, it’s always fun to do something.” He continued, “But I think you need a really good idea and not just jump into it.”

Vaughn revealed that he had never made a sequel film in his career, despite having been asked to do some. He then said that a potential sequel to Wedding Crashers would need its “own story,” before adding, “It could be fun to get back with those guys if everything worked out.”

After being asked where his character from the original film, Jeremy Grey, and Owen Wilson’s John Beckwith, were since the 2005 movie’s events, Vaughn replied that they could be in “a lot of different places.” He further stated, “You never know in life where roads take you.”

Five months earlier, Wilson told Collider that David Dobkin was developing a script and that they were discussing it. Bringing up the first one’s popularity with audiences, the Loki actor said that they would proceed with the sequel’s production if they came up with “something [they thought] could be great.”

Before Wilson’s comments, Isla Fisher, who also featured in the original, revealed on Watch What Happens Live! that she had gotten a visa to film the sequel in the United States two years ago. She suggested that Wilson’s filming schedule was the only roadblock, adding that Dobkin and Vaughn were interested in making the movie. Fisher clarified, “All the ingredients are there.”
