The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has revealed an important crossover with a beloved Nintendo franchise that will occur when the film is released in theaters on April 1, 2026.

A surprising new character is coming in the sequel. The etudio announced that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will feature Fox McCloud. Fox is the main character in Nintendo’s Star Fox series and a fan-favorite in the Super Smash Bros. games. The announcement did not reveal who will be voicing Fox.
Fox is the latest Nintendo character to join The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. R.O.B. and Pikmin, two characters in the Nintendo universe, will be appearing in the sequel. Ed Skudder will voice R.O.B., while the voice of Pikmin remains unknown.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is the highly anticipated sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which became the first film based on a video game to gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
The cast includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Donald Glover as Yoshi, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina.
“Having thwarted Bowser’s previous plot to marry Princess Peach, Mario and Luigi now face a fresh threat in Bowser Jr., who is determined to liberate his father from captivity and restore the family legacy,” the film’s official synopsis reads. “Alongside companions new and old, the brothers travel across the stars to stop the young heir’s crusade.”
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return to direct the sequel from a script by Matthew Fogel. Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo will produce. The sequel will be co-financed by Universal Pictures and Nintendo.
