James Marsden Details Issue With New Cyclops Suit in Avengers: Doomsday
James Marsden is stepping back into the shoes of X-Men leader Scott Summers, a.k.a Cyclops, for Avengers: Doomsday, hitting theaters later this year. In the upcoming MCU film, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, he will wear a new costume, closely resembling his suit from the comics, rather than the black leather suit he wore in the original movies. Recently, the actor revealed the one issue he had with the outfit while discussing it in an interview.
James Marsden talks Cyclops’ new suit in Avengers: Doomsday
Marsden touched upon Cyclops’ suit for Avengers: Doomsday in a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. He first recalled that for the original X-Men movie, he wore a black leather suit, which was incredibly tight and restrictive, not allowing for much movement. He added that on the first day of filming, he and Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman had to jump over a little retaining wall outside the Statue of Liberty, but ended up tripping over it due to their tight suits. The Sonic the Hedgehog star clarified that he wasn’t joking and that there was online footage of his and Jackman’s on-set mishap.
Marsden then shifted the topic to Cyclops’ suit in Doomsday, saying wearing it felt “very cool’ and “very proud” until he wore the visor. “I’m like, ‘Oh yeah. I can’t see again,'” he added. “You can’t really see through the visor. There’s a few of them. One lights up and one you can kind of see a little bit through.”
The Paradise actor also pointed out that the visor had a small slit through which he could see, while Jimmy Kimmel jokingly compared the actor’s predicament to wearing sunglasses in a situation where it wasn’t required.
The comedian subsequently joked that Marsden was “at his most vulnerable” when “dressed as a superhero.” The latter agreed, saying, “That’s kind of what I’m getting at.”
Marsden is one of several actors from the original X-Men films reprising their roles. Joining him are Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), and Rebecca Romijn (Mystique).
Avengers: Doomsday premieres in theaters on December 18, 2026.
