The Devil Wears Prada is coming to Hulu next month
The Devil Wears Prada will stream on Hulu starting Wednesday, April 1, 2026. This gives Hulu subscribers the chance to revisit the film ahead of the sequel’s release. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to debut in theaters on May 1, 2026.
The original film is the official adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name. Its story follows Andy Sachs, who lands a job as the junior assistant to Miranda Priestly, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. While Andy struggles to keep up with Miranda’s demanding expectations, she also faces hostility from her senior assistant, Emily. Slowly but steadily, Andy begins to adapt to the fashion world. However, the process takes a toll on her personal life.
The Devil Wears Prada’s cast features Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andrea “Andy” Sachs, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling, among others.
David Frankel helmed the film from a screenplay written by Aline Brosh McKenna. Reportedly, McKenna began writing the screenplay long before Weisberger even finished her book. Executives at Fox 2000 Pictures, at the time, were so impressed with just the first 100 pages of the manuscript that they bought the rights ahead of the book’s release (via Variety).
The studio reportedly wanted Rachel McAdams to portray Andy and offered her the role three times. However, she reportedly refused it every time (via Entertainment Weekly). On the other hand, Hathaway actively pursued the role. Meanwhile, the studio saw over 100 audition tapes for the role of Emily. When they finally landed on Blunt, she chose to portray the character as British rather than as American, as in the book.
The Devil Wears Prada was released on June 30, 2006. It immediately clicked with both audiences and critics, garnering a favorable reception. The film currently has an approval rating of 75% among critics and 76% among audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Commercially, it went on to earn an impressive $326.5 million globally against a budget of $35 million.
All of the four lead cast members are reprising their roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2.
