Daniels’ Everything Everywhere All at Once Follow-up Movie Gets Release Date Update

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the directing duo known as Daniels, have given fans an update on when they can expect their highly anticipated follow-up to their 2022 award-winner Everything Everywhere All at Once.

What do we know about The Daniels’ next movie?

Speaking to Collider in a recent interview while promoting his new documentary The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist at SXSW, Daniel Kwan was asked about he and his directing partner’s follow-up movie. Kwan gave some optimistic remarks, noting that the plan is to film it in the summer and have a November 2027 release if all things go according to plan.

“We’re about to shoot this summer, and it is coming out, if all things go to plan, next November of 2027. The only thing you need to know is we are trying to do what we have always done, which is listen very deeply to what is happening in the world and try to internalize that and make something really fun and entertaining that kind of reflects that story back to the world,” said Kwan. “So, one of the reasons why it’s taking so long is because what we’re feeling and what we’re hearing from the world is very complex and really nuanced, and there’s so much paradox. To kind of reconcile all those things and put them into one movie, it takes time. Some trees grow really quickly within a couple of years, some trees take a very long time, and sometimes the work that we do takes a little bit longer.”

Kwan went on talk a little bit about the movie, calling it a “sci-fi, action comedy with a big heart” that will once again explore the existential themes that their previous movie did.

“Again, it’s going to be fun sci-fi, action comedy with a big heart. Very existential. All those things that you would hope that one of our movies would be. But as the world gets more complex, I believe one of my jobs as a storyteller is to meet the world where it’s at,” Kwan said.

Everything Everywhere All at Once was a huge hit for A24 Films and the cast of the film at large. The film grossed over $140 million at the box office (a record high for A24) and took home over 260 awards, with many estimating it to be the most-awarded film of all time.

The film won seven of its 11 nominated awards at the 95th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress (Yeoh), Best Supporting Actor (Ke Huy Quan), Best Supporting Actress (Jamie Lee Curtis), Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
