Ryan Reynolds’ Underrated $190M Fantasy Movie Arrives on Netflix Soon

IF, one of Ryan Reynolds’ most overlooked movies of recent years will soon become available for streaming on Netflix. Written and directed by John Krasinski, it came out in 2024. The movie combines live-action and animation to tell the story of a young girl named Bea (Cailey Fleming), who gains the ability to see imaginary friends, or the titular IFs. Meanwhile, Reynolds portrays Bea’s neighbor Cal, who can also see the IFs.

IF arrives on Netflix in April

John Krasinski’s directorial venture begins streaming on Netflix next month.

As per What’s on Netflix, IF arrives in the streaming giant’s library on April 9, 2026.

Besides Ryan Reynolds and Cailey Fleming, some of the members of the cast are Krasinski as Bea’s father, Fiona Shaw as Bea’s grandmother, Alan Kim as Benjamin, Liza Colón-Zayas as Janet, Bobby Moynihan as Jeremy, and Catharine Daddario as Bea’s Mom.

The movie also has an extensive voice cast due to the hybrid nature of the project. This includes Steve Carell as Blue, Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Blossom, Louis Gossett Jr. as Lewis, Awkwafina as Bubble, Emily Blunt as Unicorn, Bradley Cooper as Ice, George Clooney as Spaceman, Matt Damon as Flower, Bill Hader as Banana, Blake Lively as Octopuss, and Jon Stewart as Robot.

Following its debut, IF had a successful run at the box office, making $190 million globally and over $111 million in the domestic market (via Box Office Mojo). Moreover, the film currently has a 51% Tomatometer rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes after 213 reviews, as well as an 89% Popcornmeter rating.

ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim gave the movie a positive review. “Despite a few narrative issues, IF is the must-see family movie of the year,” he wrote. “It’s absolutely adorable and features wonderful, wholesome moments, particularly during the teary-eyed final act. You’ll laugh, cry, and reminisce about the simplicity of childhood and the beauty of the limitless bounds of our imagination.”
