James Wan’s Violent Horror Movie Franchise Arrives on Netflix Today
Ten violent horror movies from Lionsgate’s popular horror franchise have just been added to Netflix‘s expanding library. The iconic horror thriller film franchise created by long-time collaborators James Wan and Leigh Whannell currently has a combined worldwide gross of over $1 billion at the box office.
What James Wan horror movies are now available on Netflix?
As of today, 2004’s Saw, 2005’s Saw II, 2006’s Saw III, 2007’s Saw IV, 2008’s Saw V, 2009’s Saw VI, 2010’s Saw 3D, 2017’s Jigsaw, 2021’s Spiral, and 2023’s Saw X are now finally available to stream on Netflix. Out of all the installments in the franchise, the tenth movie from director Kevin Greutert has only been the Tobin Bell-led Jigsaw movie to receive a Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. The 2023 movie starring Bell and Shawnee Smith currently holds a 81% approval rating, making it the highest-rated Saw movie to date.
“In the first installment, photographer Adam Stanheight and oncologist Lawrence Gordon regain consciousness while chained to pipes at either end of a filthy bathroom. As the two men realize they’ve been trapped by a sadistic serial killer nicknamed ‘Jigsaw’ and must complete his perverse puzzle to live, flashbacks relate the fates of his previous victims. Meanwhile, Dr. Gordon’s wife and young daughter are forced to watch his torture via closed-circuit video,” reads the official synopsis.
Last year, Blumhouse successfully acquired the rights to the Saw franchise, with Wan and Whannell attached to develop Saw 11. The upcoming sequel will serve as the creative duo’s comeback to the franchise, after nearly two decades of not being involved with the recent Saw movies. At the moment, Blumhouse has yet to make any official announcements about the project’s official director and writer.
