A Minecraft Movie 2 Cast Adds Oscar & Emmy Award Nominee

A Minecraft Movie 2 has added a major Spider-Man star to the cast of the sequel movie.

A Minecraft Movie was released in United States theaters last year by Warner Bros. Pictures. Directed by Jared Hess, the movie, which is based on the popular 2011 video game developed and published by Mojang Studios, stars Jason Momoa as Garrett ‘The Garbage Man’ Garrison, Jack Black as Steve, Emma Myers as Natalie, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, Sebastian Hansen as Henry, and Jennifer Coolidge as Marlene.

A sequel to A Minecraft Movie is now in development. It is currently scheduled to be released next year.

Who has joined the cast of A Minecraft Movie 2?

Per Deadline, Spider-Man star Kirsten Dunst has joined the cast of A Minecraft Movie 2. Character details remain under wraps at this time. Dunst previously expressed her desire to join the cast of the new Minecraft film, as she told Town & Country last August that she wanted to be part of the project, as her kids love the first movie.

In addition to playing Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, Dunst received an Oscar nomination for her performance in 2022’s The Power of the Dog, while she was also nominated for an Emmy for Fargo Season 2. Her filmography further includes 1994’s Interview with the Vampire, 1995’s Jumanji, 1999’s The Virgin Suicides, 2000’s Bring It On, 2004’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2006’s Marie Antoinette, 2011’s Melancholia, 2016’s Hidden Figures, 2024’s Civil War, and 2025’s Roofman.

Momoa, Black, Brooks, and Coolidge are all returning for A Minecraft Movie 2, while Matt Berry is also coming back to voice Nitwit. The sequel will once again be directed by Hess, with the script coming from Chris Galletta.

A Minecraft Movie 2 arrives on July 23, 2027.
