Lionsgate‘s divisive 2021 movie starring Emmy winner Chris Rock and Golden Globe nominee Samuel L. Jackson has finally found a new streaming home. Beginning today, Rock and Jackson’s Saw spin-off, Spiral: From the Book of Saw, is now officially available to stream on Netflix.
What do we know about Chris Rock’s Spiral movie?
Spiral was directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, with Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger writing the screenplay. This served as the ninth installment of the long-running horror franchise. Besides Rock and Jackson, the movie also starred Max Minghella as Detective William Schenk, Marisol Nichols as Captain Angie Garza, Zoie Palmer as Kara Bozwick, Daniel Petronijevic as Detective Marv “Boz” Bozwick, Richard Zeppieri as Detective Fitch, Patrick McManus as Peter Dunleavy, Ali Johnson as Officer Jeannie Lewis, K. C. Collins as Detective Drury, and more.
During its theatrical run, the film earned a gross of over $40 million at the global box office, making it the lowest-grossing installment of the iconic horror franchise. It received mixed reviews from critics and the audience. Despite not meeting the critics’ expectations, the film was still able to garner a 75% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
“A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw,” reads the official synopsis. “Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran, brash Detective Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Banks and his rookie partner take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.
