Sam Rockwell & John Malkovich Play CIA Agents in Star-Studded Wild Horse Nine Trailer

Searchlight Pictures has released the official trailer for Wild Horse Nine, a new film starring Sam Rockwell and John Malkovich from Oscar-winner Martin McDonagh.

“Shortly before the 1973 Chilean coup, CIA agents Chris (Malkovich) and Lee (Rockwell) are dispatched from Santiago to Easter Island by their bureau chief, MJ,” the official synopsis reads. “Amongst the Island’s iconic statues, and as the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, Chris’s newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students threatens to send everyone’s trip to this remote paradise sideways.”

While speaking to Chris, Lee says, “Not say anything or do anything that’ll reveal anything we don’t want revealed?” Despite trying to keep a low profile, Chris can’t help himself when he starts conversing with two students, played by Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas. This threatens the entire operation, leading Steve Buscemi‘s MJ to tell Lee that Chris is “not leaving the island.”

McDonagh writes, directs, and produces Wild Horse Nine. Additional producers include Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, and Anita Overland. Tom Waits and Parker Posey also star.

Wild Horse Nine marks McDonagh’s fifth feature-length film and first since The Banshees of Inisherin. Released in 2022, The Banshees of Inisherin received nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and acting nods for Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Barry Keoghan, and Kerry Condon.

Rockwell previously worked with McDonagh in 2012’s Seven Psychopaths and 2017’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Rockwell won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Three Billboards.

Searchlight has dated Wild Horse Nine for November 6, 2026.
