Zack Snyder celebrated five years of his version of Justice League with a trailer post. The filmmaker used the moment to thank fans who helped turn a once-shelved project into reality.
Zack Snyder posts Justice League trailer for fifth anniversary
Snyder shared the main trailer of Snydercut on Instagram, which was used to market its initial release. The trailer highlights Darkseid battling a united force of gods, humans, Atlanteans, and Amazons, a sequence missing from the 2017 theatrical cut. It also focuses on the core team: Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg, giving each hero a stronger presence. The emotional weight is amplified by “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen, a track Snyder previously used in Watchmen, making the callback even more meaningful.
In the caption, Snyder directly credited fans for the film’s existence. “This film lives because of you,” he wrote, calling supporters “associate producers in every sense.” The post quickly picked up traction, with fans celebrating the film and its long journey to release. Reactions online ranged from praise to nostalgia. Some called the film “etched in cinema history,” while others thanked Snyder for sticking to his vision. Many also noted how rare it is for a comic book film to stay in discussion years after release.
The anniversary also brings back memories of the troubled 2017 version, which was finished by Joss Whedon. That theatrical cut faced criticism for tonal shifts, rushed storytelling, and behind-the-scenes issues.
Fans were unhappy with how much of Snyder’s original vision was altered. The eventual release of the Snydercut in 2021 came after years of fan campaigns under the “Release the Snydercut” movement. What started as online demand turned into a studio decision, giving Snyder the chance to complete his intended version. Five years later, the film still holds a strong fanbase and cultural impact, so much so that DCEU fans still want the SnyderVerse to be restored.
