Dakota Johnson & Sean Penn’s R-Rated Movie To Stream on Hulu After Netflix
An R-rated drama led by Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn is set for a new streaming release as it transitions from Netflix to Hulu. The shift brings the film to a wider audience following its earlier digital run.
Daddio arrives on Hulu in April
Daddio will be available to stream on Hulu starting April 26, 2026, as confirmed by the platform’s latest release schedule. The film’s move comes as it exits Netflix on the same date, shifting its streaming home.
Written and directed by Christy Hall, the film was released in select theaters across the United States and Canada on June 28, 2024. It features Sean Penn as a New York City cab driver and Dakota Johnson as his passenger. The story unfolds during a late-night journey from JFK Airport to Manhattan.
Set almost entirely inside the taxi, the film focuses on the evolving conversation between the two characters. Though it begins as a routine ride, the journey gradually develops into a more personal exchange. Both individuals reflect on their lives and perspectives as the journey progresses.
Upon its release, Daddio received a positive response from critics and audiences. It currently holds a 75% critics’ score and an 89% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. James Croot of Stuff wrote, “Writer-director Christy Hall’s single-location drama, originally conceived as a stage play, is a charming and, occasionally, compelling tale of two disparate people making a connection.” He added, “Penn and Johnson’s chemistry is what sells Daddio and makes this a ride most definitely worth taking.”
Loud and Clear Reviews reported, “Hall’s Daddio is an impressive debut feature. It is funny and touching and crass and moving and above all else a bold way to dive into a career as a director. It allows the performances of Johnson and Penn to shine, with its writing giving them the ammunition to do so effortlessly.”
