Updates have emerged surrounding Damien Chazelle’s upcoming film starring Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig. As production moves forward, new details about the project’s setting and timeline continue to surface.
Damien Chazelle’s untitled movie starts production
Damien Chazelle has reportedly begun production on his untitled film, filming in Greece. Social media posts show that the crew is shooting scenes featuring Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig in a transformed basement location used as a prison set.
One post stated, “A Hollywood movie starring Daniel Craig and Cillian Murphy is being filmed 100 meters from my door!”
The same post described the setting, adding, “That tobacco factory basement in the picture is now a ‘prison’, where the ex-Bond plays a prison guard.” Additional images circulating online have led to speculation about character roles, with another post claiming, “Oh ye, Cillian is def playing the prisoner, JESUSCHRIST.” These details have not been officially confirmed.
The project features a cast including Cillian Murphy, Daniel Craig, Michelle Williams, and Mia Threapleton. Deadline reported that Threapleton joined the film following an audition process overseen by Chazelle. Paramount Pictures is distributing the film, with Chazelle writing, directing, and producing alongside Olivia Hamilton through Wild Chickens Productions.
Insiders say the story takes place in a prison, while the filmmakers have not disclosed official plot details. Reports suggest the film draws inspiration from 1970s New Hollywood cinema. Lol Crawley serves as cinematographer, and Justin Hurwitz composes the score, continuing his collaboration with Damien Chazelle on another feature project.
The production will continue filming until June, using locations in western Athens and the island of Corfu. The film follows Chazelle’s previous project, Babylon, and marks his sixth feature. Cillian Murphy, who won an Oscar for Oppenheimer, and Daniel Craig, known for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, lead the ensemble.
Shooting locations also include a former tobacco-processing factory basement converted into prison cells for key scenes in the production process.
