War Machine Star Cast in Jason Momoa’s Netflix Action Comedy Movie

Netflix’s upcoming action comedy Protecting Jared continues to build its cast as production ramps up in Hawaii. The streaming giant has added two familiar faces to the project, which pairs Jason Momoa with Andy Samberg in what promises to be a high-octane comedic thrill ride.

Jai Courtney and Aimee Carrero join the cast of Protecting Jared, director revealed

Australian actor Jai Courtney, best known for his role in Netflix’s War Machine and the limited series American Primeval, has boarded the project. He joins Aimee Carrero, whose recent credits include the indie hit The Menu and the ongoing Apple series Your Friends & Neighbors. Further, Venom director Ruben Fleischer will be helming the project. Their character details remain under wraps, but both actors and the filmmaker bring major genre experience to the table.

Courtney, who played Captain Boomerang in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, has been on a remarkable run. His Netflix thriller War Machine premiered recently and became one of the streamer’s top hits. He recently appeared in Dangerous Animals at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival as well.

On the other hand, Carrero is currently filming the Netflix comedy One Attempt Remaining alongside Jennifer Garner and John Cena. Her extensive television resume includes Freeform’s Young & Hungry. While voice acting fans know her as Disney’s Latina princess in Elena of Avalor and as the titular character in Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (via Deadline).

Now they star in Protecting Jared alongside Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg. It centers around Momoa’s character William Ikaika, a Hawaiian security guard who must defend himself and Jared, a tech billionaire played by Samberg, when a dangerous kidnapping plan comes into play. The script comes from the writing duo of Rob Klein and John Solomon.

Production is said to be currently underway in O’ahu, with filming scheduled through next month. Given the post-production requirements for an action comedy, a 2027 release window appears likely.
