Samara Weaving’s R-Rated Thriller Gets Critics Buzzing in Reviews & RT Score

Samara Weaving‘s next movie, after Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, has already set critics abuzz, leading to a positive score on Rotten Tomatoes. Over Your Dead Body is an action-comedy thriller that Jorma Taccone (MacGruber) directed. Screenwriters Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney penned the screenplay as an English-language remake of the 2021 Norwegian film The Trip.

Meanwhile, the plot of Over Your Dead Body revolves around Lisa (Weaving) and Dan (Jason Segel), a couple who go on a holiday with plans to murder one another.

What critics are saying about Over Your Dead Body in reviews

Over Your Dead Body has garnered mostly positive reviews from professional critics following its world premiere at the 2026 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival on March 14, 2026. Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting called Over Your Dead Body “one of the funniest” as well as “one of the bloodiest” movies of the year.

Meanwhile, Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter noted, “It actually comes as a slight disappointment when… Over Your Dead Body transitions into a relatively straightforward battle for survival. But at least ‘straightforward,’ in this case, still means packed with playful punches.”

Variety’s Owen Gleiberman observed that while Over Your Dead Body may seem like a “hyper-violent video game,” it is still “a video game as staged by Hitchcock.”

Glenn Garner of Deadline praised the director and the cast in the outlet’s review of the movie. “With ample amounts of gore that somehow feels earned, Taccone weaves a fun, tense comedy thriller, with help from Segel and Weaving’s unhinged onscreen chemistry and a talented ensemble cast,” Garner shared.

In contrast, Gregory Nussen of Screen Rant gave the movie a negative review, calling it “too messy for its own good.”

Over Your Dead Body gets a solid score on Rotten Tomatoes

At the time this article was written, Over Your Dead Body had a 69% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes. This number will likely change as the movie approaches its theatrical release on April 24, 2026.
