Rebecca Ferguson Wanted To Be in New Flop Movie Sequel but Got Shot Down
Rebecca Ferguson recently revealed a film that she wanted to be a part of, but was turned down. The actress is currently gearing up for two major releases this year. She will reprise her role of Juliette Nichols in Silo Season 3, the penultimate chapter of the Apple TV series, and also appear in Dune Part 3, which concludes Denis Villeneuve’s epic sci-fi trilogy.
Rebecca Ferguson asked Cillian Murphy to be in 28 Years Later 3
On Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Rebecca Ferguson recalled that she asked her Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man co-star Cillian Murphy for a part in 28 Years Later 3. However, she revealed that he turned her down, recalling him telling her, “There’s nothing for you.”
In response, Horowitz joked that she could play a zombie. To this, Ferguson replied while chuckling, “Yeah, exactly. Again, a bloody teacup.”
Alex Garland is writing the third installment, having scripted the previous two and the franchise opener, 28 Days Later. Meanwhile, Danny Boyle, who helmed the latter and 28 Years Later, will reprise directorial duties.
Murphy, who plays Jim in the movies, told The Observer last year that a threequel would only happen if 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was a success. However, the Nia DaCosta directorial ended up flopping at the box office following its January 16 release, making only roughly $58 million against its $63 million budget.
Despite this, Deadline reported a month ahead of its release that the threequel was moving forward.
28 Years Later 3 currently does not have an official release date. As of writing, the story is unknown. However, based on how 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple ended, it will see Spike (Alfie Williams) and Kellie (Erin Kellyman) — who escaped Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal’s (Jack O’Connell) wrath in the previous film — continue their survival against the zombie apocalypse, while being aided by Jim and his daughter, Sam, played by Maiya Eastmond.
Meanwhile, The Immortal Man starts streaming on Netflix on March 20, 2026. Murphy reprises his Peaky Blinders role of Tommy Shelby, while Ferguson essays identical twins, Kaulo and Zelda.
