Sarah Michelle Gellar reveals the commonality between The Matrix and Scooby-Doo
Gellar appeared on the new episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. There, she touched upon her marriage to Freddie Prinze Jr. and looked back on her work on the live-action Scooby-Doo films, released in 2002 and 2004, which also featured the latter.
The actress revealed that for the 2002 installment, she and the rest of the cast and crew worked with the Hong Kong wire team that also contributed to The Matrix.
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star also pointed out that Fallon had something in common with the stunt team: being unable to remember her name. “They couldn’t remember my name either, and they would call me blonde girl,” she added.
In response, Fallon asserted he knew her name, to which she smirked and asked him to tell her. The late-night talk show host jokingly responded, “Julie,” to which the Cruel Intentions actress jokingly said, “Yes.”
The pair then switched back to discussing the Hong Kong wire team’s involvement in both Scooby-Doo and The Matrix. Gellar once again clarified that the same team that trained Keanu Reeves in the latter trained her for the former.
“It’s a really cool fight at the end with all this…And I had all my…both my stunt doubles from Buffy came out,” she continued. “And, yeah, so they would…Blonde girl. Stunt Blonde, Blonde Girl.” Gellar jokingly noted that she would still respond to being called that, acknowledging it wasn’t “incorrect.”
Two months earlier, Gellar reflected on her time working on the Scooby-Doo films and how her opinion of them eventually changed. On the Shut Up Evan podcast, the Daytime Emmy winner admitted she was initially disappointed in them not turning out to be the adult-oriented features she signed on for. However, she added that she has now grown to appreciate them in “hindsight.”
