KPop Demon Hunters Oscar Winners Share Comments After Speech Cut-off
The team behind the animated hit KPop Demon Hunters had a memorable night at the 2026 Academy Awards. But one moment sparked attention after part of the group’s acceptance speech was abruptly cut off during the ceremony.
KPop Demon Hunters composers got to finish their Oscars speech
The composers behind the song “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters faced an awkward moment onstage during the 2026 Oscars. The orchestra began playing before all the winners could finish their remarks. The interruption happened while the team accepted the award for Best Original Song.
While Ejae completed her speech, one of the winners, Yu Han Lee, barely started speaking before the music signaled the end of the speech. He only managed to say, “I would like to thank—” before the orchestra cut in. Later in the press room at the Dolby Theatre, Lee completed his speech and said thanks to the people who supported the project. “I would like to thank our families, and 24, and our fellow IDO members,” he said, calling the win “an incredible honor (via Entertainment Weekly).”
Co-composer Mark Sonnenblick also continued his remarks during the media session after the ceremony. He thanked his family and collaborators who worked on the animated film. Sonnenblick praised the team effort behind the project, noting that animation and music came together through a huge group effort. “Everybody who worked on this movie, all the animators — it was a real collaboration across the board,” he stated.
He also reflected on the film’s message about understanding others. Sonnenblick explained that the story explores learning to trust people you once feared. He ended his remarks by thanking fans and everyone involved in the soundtrack, saying a movie succeeds because many people contribute. “A movie is like a village,” he added.
The musical team included the likes of Joong Gyu Kwak, Ejae, Jeong Hoon Seo, Hee Dong Nam, and Teddy Park. Ejae delivered the only full speech during the broadcast, telling the audience she felt proud that K-pop music had reached such a global stage.
