Jenna Ortega’s 90s Erotic Thriller Remake Gets New Title, Writer
A year after the project was first announced, 3000 Pictures’ upcoming remake of 1992’s classic erotic thriller film Single White Female has finally received a major update about its current status. The remake will be led by Wednesday star Jenna Ortega and Bones and All star Taylor Russell.
What’s the new update for Jenna Ortega’s erotic thriller movie?
According to Deadline, the upcoming remake will now officially be titled Single Female, with writer Sarah DeLappe signing on to pen the film’s screenplay. DeLappe is best known for her work on 2022’s A24 horror comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies. Her 2016 one-act play, The Wolves, also received acclaim and was given the American Playwriting Foundation’s inaugural Relentless Award.
The upcoming movie will be produced by Ortega, Russell, Stacey Sher, and Marisa Paiva. At the moment, it has no director or target release date yet. The original 1992 film was directed by Barbet Schroeder, based on John Lutz’s 1990 novel SWF Seeks Same. It starred Bridget Fonda as Allie and Jennifer Jason Leigh as Hedy.
“Having recently split from fiancé Sam Rawson, Allison Jones welcomes new roommate Hedra Carlson. The young women quickly form a bond, but as Allison starts to rethink her engagement, Hedra grows jealous and hostile,” reads the original movie’s synopsis. “As Allison learns new details about her roommate’s life, Hedra gets violent in her efforts to get Sam out of the picture. With Hedra turning more menacing by the minute, Allison finally understands what she’s up against.”
Ortega was most recently seen in last year’s A24 horror comedy Death of a Unicorn and in Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2. She will next be seen starring opposite Glen Powell in J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond movie, which will debut on November 13. Meanwhile, Russell is currently attached to star in the upcoming South Korean sci-fi thriller movie Hope with Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender, and Squid Game’s Jung Ho-yeon.
