What happens in the Thrash trailer?

The Thrash trailer showcases a category 5 hurricane that hits a coastal town hard. In the midst of the chaos of the hurricane, however, comes a group of sharks, turns things up to an even more chaotic degree. Folks trapped by the hurricane must now deal with the threat of the sharks, as well as the situation they find themselves in.

Thrash is written and directed by Tommy Wirkola. The movie is produced by Adam McKay, Kevin Messick, and Wirkola. The cast is led by Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou, with Matt Nable, Andrew Lees, Alyla Browne, Stacy Clausen, and Dante Ubaldi also starring in the movie.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be back in business with all our friends at Netflix on this film,” McKay said in a statement. “We had a great experience together on Don’t Look Up and look forward to working with them to make this an event streaming release in 2026.”

The history of Thrash is a long one. The movie was originally announced in 2024 under the name Beneath the Storm, and was subsequently renamed to Shiver in 2025. Earlier this year, though, the movie was re-titled yet again, with rights for the film transferring to Netflix and away from Columbia Pictures, where it originally was.
