Zachary Levi’s Overlooked Fantasy Movie To Be Removed From Netflix Soon

A Zachary Levi-led 2024 family comedy will be delisted from Netflix’s content library next month. The movie is an adaptation of a 1955 children’s book and follows a young boy living inside a storybook. He uses his magical purple crayon to bring himself and his friends to the real world.

Harold and the Purple Crayon leaves Netflix in April

Harold and the Purple Crayon is leaving Netflix on Thursday, April 30, 2026. It is based on Crockett Johnson’s 1955 children’s picture book. The movie combines live-action and animation to tell a heartwarming, family-friendly story.

It centers on Harold, a boy who lives in a magical world created by his imagination. With his purple crayon, he can draw anything and make it real. One day, when the narrator goes missing, Harold draws a door to the real world and enters it to find him. There, he meets new people and experiences things he has never seen before.

Oscar-nominated Carlos Saldanha helmed the movie. This was his first live-action project, having primarily produced animated movies, such as the first three Ice Age movies, the Rio duology, and Ferdinand. Meanwhile, David Guion and Michael Handelman wrote the screenplay.

The movie’s cast includes Zachary Levi as Harold, Zooey Deschanel as Terry, Lil Rel Howery as Moose, Benjamin Bottani as Mel, and Tanya Reynolds as Porcupine, among others.

Harold and the Purple Crayon was released on August 2, 2024, with Sony Pictures Releasing handling the distribution. It received predominantly negative reviews from critics, resulting in a low 29% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While the audience’s score is at an average of 89%, it couldn’t perform well at the box office. It ended its theatrical run with a global haul of $32.2 million (via Box Office Mojo).

Netflix subscribers have until the end of April to stream the movie on the platform. Currently, there is no information on which platform it will move to next.
